Vopak Terminals Australia and H2U Join Forces

Vopak Terminals Australia and The Hydrogen Utility (H2U) have joined forces to collaborate on the ambitious H2-Hub Gladstone project in Queensland, a multi-billion dollar initiative focusing on green hydrogen and ammonia development.

This project is set to become the largest of its kind in the state, boasting an impressive capacity of over 3GW of electrolyser capacity to produce more than 1.7 million tonnes of green ammonia annually.

The primary focus of this partnership between H2U and Vopak will be on the export terminal at the Gladstone hub. H2U has already secured collaboration agreements and green ammonia offtake deals with notable companies such as Orica Australia, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and Korea East-West Power (EWP).

As a wholly owned subsidiary of Royal Vopak, the Australian terminals business brings over two decades of experience in ammonia storage and operates six terminals worldwide.

This new collaboration represents another significant step for the company as it further commits to the advancement of green hydrogen and ammonia supply chains. In addition to their involvement in the H2-Hub Gladstone project, Vopak has previously announced plans to aid in the transport and storage of these eco-friendly carriers in the Netherlands, Singapore, and the US through various partnerships.
