Venice’s Hydrogen-powered Delivery Service To Cut Carbon Emissions

Nippon Express Italia (NX Italy) has announced it has launched a last-mile delivery service using hydrogen-powered boats for deliveries, primarily luxury fashion shops. Hydrogen Industry Leaders looks at how the boats hope to cut carbon dioxide emissions.

The hydrogen-powered boats are said to be equipped with removable hydrogen generators and it is hoped that they will contribute to the European Union’s goal of reducing GHG emissions by at least 55 per cent from 1990 levels, no later than 2030.

As well as striving to address climate change by cutting its own carbon dioxide emissions in its operations, the company will create products and services that will help its customers reduce their own emissions.

It comes after Venice’s first hydrogen refuelling station was opened in June 2022, offering over 100kg of hydrogen per day to its customers.
