Renewable energy sources and security have gained new relevance after Russia invaded Ukraine. However, this does not stop the development of the renewable energy sector. Ukraine, joining global processes, has embarked on developing renewable energy, reducing current energy consumption costs, decarbonising the economy, and decentralising energy systems.
The Energy Association “Ukrainian Hydrogen Council” and the company “Politechnoservice” presented a stand at the International Exhibition ECOENERGY EXPO 2024. The event aimed to showcase modern renewable energy technologies’ vast potential and competitive advantages and bring together the professional community on a single platform.
The association’s president, Polina Kazakevych, noted: “The business community is ready for a rapid transition to alternative energy sources, particularly hydrogen technologies. However, some delays have been experienced in implementing these processes due to insufficient infrastructure for hydrogen production. Our association is doing everything possible to ensure that green hydrogen production in Ukraine starts as soon as possible.”
Before the full-scale invasion, “Politechnoservice” was developing programs for implementing international buses using hydrogen fuel cells, the retrofitting of locomotives, and heavy logistics vehicles. Indeed, there was a significant reserve of developments, and even fuel cells were purchased. However, these programs were temporarily suspended due to the lack of necessary infrastructure—such as refuelling stations and production infrastructure in the form of “Hydrogen Valleys,” currently under development.
LLC “Politechnoservice” is an engineering and manufacturing company specialising in developing and serialising electrical equipment for trolleybuses, trams, and electric buses at its production facilities. The company actively collaborates with globally renowned companies such as Ballard, Schaltbau, and Schneider Electric, as well as Ukrainian partners.
The main areas of activity include developing and manufacturing control systems for traction batteries and electric transport, incorporating alternative energy sources. “Politechnoservice” is involved in developing vehicles equipped with hydrogen fuel cells, which are part of initiatives advancing hydrogen energy and decarbonisation.
The ECOENERGY EXPO 2024 demonstrated significant excitement around alternative energy: solar, wind, energy storage systems, and decentralising energy systems. Projects like condominiums, “SmartCity” concepts, and energy-saving technologies were actively discussed.
According to manufacturers, 90% of cable and wire production is now used in alternative energy applications. Companies that previously focused only on transformers and electrical installations are now shifting to producing autonomous energy storage systems, batteries, hybrid inverters, and solar panels.
This year has shown a substantial increase in interest in alternative energy. Businesses have stopped relying solely on the government and are now looking for a solution to decentralise energy systems through the use of renewable energy sources.
The Energy Association “Ukrainian Hydrogen Council” supports these initiatives and believes that Ukraine can achieve energy independence and security through the combined efforts of businesses and society.
