UK Greenlights 10 Hydrogen Projects, Unlocking £400m Investment

The UK government has signed contracts for ten commercial-scale green hydrogen projects under its Hydrogen Allocation Round 1 (HAR1), unlocking over £400 million in private investment and creating 700 jobs nationwide.

Projects span from Teesside to South Wales and include industrial decarbonisation, mobility, and clean fuel production. Notable developments include:

  • HyMarnham: Repurposing a former coal plant in Nottinghamshire into a hydrogen hub.
  • Bradford Low Carbon Hydrogen: Supplying clean fuel to JCB and Wrightbus.
  • Kimberly-Clark: Replacing fossil fuels in tissue production at Barrow and Northfleet.

Each project will receive long-term support via the Low Carbon Hydrogen Agreement and capital funding from the Net Zero Hydrogen Fund.

The government has committed up to £2 billion in revenue support over 15 years.

HAR1 marks the UK’s most tangible step yet toward industrial-scale green hydrogen, with real jobs and infrastructure now in motion.
