Toyota Motors signs partnership on hydrogen refuel systems

The Toyota Motors partnership, which will feature hydrogen refuelling infrastructure, will enable refueling for vehicles in less than 10 minutes.

Toyota Motor Europe, a subsidary of Toyota Motors, has announced an agreement with Hydrogen Refueling Solutions (HRS) and ENGIE with the aim of establishing accesible hydrogen refuelling systems across the TEN-T networks.

As stated by the autotmotive manufacturer, the systems will be piloted in an EU-funded RHeaDHy project by Q4 2025 and will be focussed “on accelerating infrastructure deployment”.

Strategically placed, the refuelling systems will be featured at every 200km along the TEN-T networks, aligning with the requirements for the TEN-T infrastructure.

The project, which is set to feature Twin Mid Flow Technology, allows for heavy duty vehicles to be refuelled with hydrogen in less than 10 minutes, enabling a more efficient hydrogen infrastructure.

Thiebault Paquet, Vice President R&D, Toyota Motor Europe said: “To contribute to the growth of hydrogen ecosystems, Toyota is already working with business partners who are innovating a wide range of zero carbon emission applications using our advanced fuel cell systems.

“Development of the Twin Mid Flow Technology is a next step in our effort to stimulate the growth of hydrogen ecosystems. We are excited about this new partnership”.

Through this partnership, the consortium aim to support EU targets set out in the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR), which sets mandotory targets for the deployment of renewable energies.

According to Toyota Motors, the installation cost of the hydrogen refuelling stations will be “significantly lower”.

Hassen Rachedi, CEO and Founder, Hydrogen Refueling Solution added how this global project will expand hydrogen capabilities.

Rachedi said: “This strategic partnership with Toyota Motor Europe and ENGIE marks a decisive step in hydrogen refuelling infrastructure innovation. By combining our expertise, we will accelerate the roll-out of hydrogen stations across Europe and the world, reducing refuelling times and making stations more accessible and cost-effective”.

“Together, we are laying the foundations for a future in which hydrogen will play a central role in decarbonising transport worldwide”.
