TES and Saibu Gas to Promote e-NG from Green Hydrogen
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote electric natural gas (e-NG) derived from green hydrogen as a clean energy source across Japan is explore opportunities.
This strategic partnership includes a long-term e-NG offtake contract by Saibu Gas from TES production projects, marking a substantial step towards sustainable energy solutions. The collaboration will focus on capturing CO2 and combining it with green hydrogen to create e-NG, which can be used as a drop-in fuel at consumer facilities.
This approach enables an overseas supply chain for TES and introduces e-NG into the Japanese market. The Japanese nation aims to use e-NG for 90% of its city gas consumption by 2050, highlighting the importance of this partnership in achieving the country’s ambitious energy goals.
Marco Alverá, CEO and Co-Founder of TES underscored the significance of this collaboration: “We acknowledge the profound significance of the Japanese LNG market and its influence both locally and globally. Together with Saibu Gas, we drive meaningful progress towards greener alternatives for Japan’s energy sector.” The partnership with Saibu Gas is part of TES’s broader strategy to expand the use of e-NG globally.
In June this year, TES collaborated with Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K LINE) to explore the uses of e-NG in Japanese maritime applications. This initiative aims to facilitate the transition to cleaner bunker fuels for ‘K’ Line’s vessels, further underscoring the versatility and potential of e-NG as a sustainable energy solution.
Additionally, TES formed a global coalition dedicated to raising awareness of e-NG and promoting its trade and use. The coalition includes major industry players such as Engie, Mitsubishi Corporation, Osaka Gas, Sempra Infrastructure, Tokyo Gas, Toho Gas, and TotalEnergies. This coalition aims to leverage the collective expertise and resources of its members to advance the adoption of e-NG and support the global transition to cleaner energy sources.
The MOU with Saibu Gas represents a crucial milestone in TES’s mission to promote e-NG as a viable and sustainable alternative to traditional fossil fuels. By establishing a long-term offtake contract, TES and Saibu Gas ensure a stable supply of e-NG for the Japanese market, supporting the nation’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and transition to a more sustainable energy system.
The collaboration drives significant progress in the development and deployment of e-NG technologies, fostering innovation and sustainability in the energy sector. As Japan continues to pursue its 2050 Net Zero goals, partnerships like this will be essential in achieving a cleaner, greener future.
