Singapore to Explore Liquid Hydrogen to Decarbonise Data Centres

Woodside Energy could supply Keppel Data Centres with 1,000 tonnes of liquid hydrogen per day to decarbonise data centre facilities in Singapore. Hydrogen Industry Leaders looks at how this will help to accelerate Singapore’s decarbonisation efforts.

Under a new Heads of Agreement (HoA), the two companies will work together to evaluate the potential supply of liquid hydrogen to Singapore from Woodside’s planned production facilities, including its H2Perth facility in Western Australia.

The HoA notes the potential purchase of 1,000 tonnes of liquid hydrogen per day by Keppel as early as 2030. This is when the companies expect the associated production technologies and shipping systems to reach maturity.

Shaun Gregory, Executive Vice-President New Energy at Woodside, explained that liquid hydrogen is a key step in reaching decarbonisation targets: “Liquefying hydrogen provides the opportunity to export energy that can contribute to the decarbonisation goals of customers and provide an economic and trade opportunity that supports the Singapore-Australia Green Economy Agreement.”

It is hoped that the liquid hydrogen supplied will be used in Keppel’s data centre facilities, including its planned Datapark+, which is planned to be an energy-efficient data centre park development in Singapore.
