President of Egypt Talks Hydrogen with Norwegian Prime Minister

On Monday, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre welcomed the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to a working lunch in the Government Guest House in Oslo. President El-Sisi is the first Egyptian head of state to pay an official visit to Norway.

During their meeting, they discussed a wide range of topics ranging from human rights, ongoing conflicts, and green energy.

Green technology

In their discussion around the need to focus on green fuels, hydrogen was cited as a potential solution alongside other green fuels and technologies.

Egypt has positioned itself as one of the leading countries of the Middle East and North Africa in the area of renewable energy and production of green fuels.

Norway and Egypt have established business cooperation, including in green technology, and cooperation agreements were signed between the Norwegian company Scatec and Egyptian and international partners in connection with today’s meeting.

“Many Norwegian companies are providing pioneering Norwegian technology to help Egypt realise its high ambitions for the green transition,” said Mr Støre.

“Norwegian projects in green hydrogen development in Egypt are paving the way for new solutions that can be used elsewhere as well.”
