Ohmium International Launches 2 GW Electrolyser Manufacturing Facility in India

The launch of its state-of-the-art facility in Doddaballapura, India is set to bolster the global supply chain for green hydrogen technologies, providing fully assembled systems for customers.

This facility covers an extensive 14,000 square metres and is equipped to double its capacity to 4 GW, positioning it as a vital player in the hydrogen technology manufacturing sector. This facility marks Ohmium’s second manufacturing site in India, highlighting India’s emerging status as a manufacturing powerhouse for Western hydrogen technology providers.

Arne Ballantine, CEO of Ohmium International, commented, “The launch of this facility is a testament to our commitment to advancing the green hydrogen economy. By leveraging India’s exceptional engineering talent and robust supply chain, we can deliver high-performance, cost-effective electrolysers to meet the growing global demand.”

India’s potential in the hydrogen sector is substantial

Last year, the India Hydrogen Alliance (IH2A) estimated that the market for Indian-manufactured hydrogen equipment could reach $50 billion by 2030, with electrolyser stacks comprising 34% of the market. Despite concerns about China’s dominance in the hydrogen technology market, industry sources have reassured that India offers a more open and certifiable manufacturing environment, enhancing its appeal for international collaborations.

Ashwin Varma, Chief Operating Officer of Ohmium, emphasized, “By implementing best practices in standardised, high-quality, safe and efficient manufacturing, we can produce systems that deliver superior performance at competitive costs and with less danger. This facility embodies our commitment to innovation and excellence in green and safe hydrogen technology.”

In addition to its manufacturing prowess, Ohmium is actively collaborating on green hydrogen projects globally. The company partnered with Tata Projects, a leading sustainable technology-led EPC company in India, to develop green hydrogen projects.

This partnership combines Ohmium’s advanced Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyser technology with Tata Projects’ expertise in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), ensuring seamless project execution and comprehensive solutions for green hydrogen production by following global safety standards and with new innovative factory set-up ideas.

Under the Indian Government’s foremost Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) round, Ohmium was selected for incentives, further solidifying its position in the Indian market. Vinayak Pai, MD and CEO of Tata Projects stated, “To support India’s transition to clean energy, we are pleased to partner with Ohmium to bring best-in-class and safe solutions for green hydrogen to market. This collaboration is a significant step towards accelerating the adoption of green hydrogen and achieving a sustainable energy future for India.”

The new facility in Doddaballapura (Bengaluru) underscores Ohmium’s dedication to advancing the hydrogen economy through innovation, strategic partnerships, and robust manufacturing capabilities. As the world shifts towards sustainable energy, Ohmium International is balanced to play a crucial role in driving the adoption and implementation of green hydrogen technologies safely globally.
