Nel Hydrogen receives $7m order for PEM electrolysers

Nel Hydrogen US stated how the elecrolyser order from a large US steel manufacturer will be used to produce hydrogen for a new US steel mill.

Nel Hydrogen US, a subsidiary of Nel ASA, has received a purchase order for two containerised PEM electrolyser units, worth $7m.

The two MC500 electrolysers which feature a 2.5 MW capacity each, will be used to produce hydrogen for a new steel mill in the US.

As stated by Nel Hydrogen, the customer is one of the largest US steel producers and already uses Nel’s PEM electrolysers to generate hydrogen at two other sites in the US.

Todd Cartwright, Nel’s Chief Commercial Officer, highlighted how this order demonstartes continued demand for Nel’s products.

Cartwright said: “We are delighted to receive a purchase order from an existing customer, as it signifies their satisfaction with the performance of our electrolysers”.

“We continue to see an increasing demand for our containerized PEM electrolysers for smaller installations as this reliable turn-key concept offers easy outdoor installation and operation,” he added.

The order will include the purchase of Nel’s PEM MC500 units that are set to be produced at its manufacturing facility in Connecticut.

Nel Hydrogen has established itself as a key player in the hydrogen market through its global deals. The company recently signed an MoU agrrement with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) to partner on clean hydrogen production technology.

This agreement further follows the signing of a new €5m contract agreement with Samsung C&T Corporation Engineering & Construction Group, for 10 MW of alkaline electrolyser equipment.
