InnoEnergy-Backed Hysun Secures €3 Million to Accelerate Breakthrough in Green Hydrogen Production

Hysun, an InnoEnergy portfolio company, has raised €3 million in new funding to advance its pioneering solar-based hydrogen production technology, marking a major step toward transforming the economics of green hydrogen.
The funding round brings in new strategic investors — Equinor Ventures, the corporate venture arm of international energy leader Equinor, and Axon Partners Group, through its NTV fund supported by Ventures EPM, part of the Latin American energy utility EPM. They join existing partners NANOGAP, Tewer Engineering, and InnoEnergy. The transaction was advised by Tribeca Abogados.
At the heart of Hysun’s innovation is a photo-thermo-catalytic process that produces 100% renewable hydrogen using concentrated solar energy, eliminating the need for electricity. By removing one of the largest cost barriers associated with green hydrogen, Hysun’s technology aims to compete directly with grey hydrogen, which still dominates industrial consumption today.
“Our solar-driven process avoids the need for electricity, unlocking a new level of cost efficiency for green hydrogen,” said Marco Carrascosa, Founder and CTO of Hysun. “This milestone proves that cutting-edge science can become an industrial solution — scalable, sustainable, and competitive.”
The investment will support the deployment of Hysun’s full-scale prototype at the Plataforma Solar de Almería, Europe’s leading solar research facility. This pilot will demonstrate the scalability and market readiness of Hysun’s technology under real-world operating conditions.
“Equinor Ventures and Axon Partners bring invaluable strategic expertise and global reach,” said Hysun’s CEO “Their confidence reinforces our belief that Europe can lead the next generation of hydrogen innovation.”
With this investment, Hysun strengthens its position as one of Europe’s most promising clean-tech startups, driving forward the energy transition and delivering tangible impact by:
- Decarbonising hard-to-electrify sectors such as heavy industry and transport.
- Closing the cost gap between green and grey hydrogen.
- Fostering R&D excellence and talent growth within Europe’s clean-energy ecosystem.
Hysun’s breakthrough exemplifies Europe’s commitment to technological leadership in the global race toward a sustainable, low-carbon future.
