NTPC, India’s largest power utility with an installed capacity of 72,304 MW, are planning to open the station in Leh sometime between August and September this year.
The project will fuel five hydrogen fuel cell buses in the region, provided by Ashok Leyland, who are the second largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles in India, and are the the fourth largest manufacturer of buses in the world.
Through electrolysis, the project will produce 80 kg per day of 99.97% pure hydrogen that will be compressed, stored, and dispensed.
NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd, a subsidiary of NTPC, had floated the tender for the project in July last year. They will also set up a 1.25 MW solar power plant, making the hydrogen fuelling station completely green.
