India Forms Green Hydrogen Partnership With Norway

Leading Green Hydrogen developer Greenstat Hydrogen India (GHI) and Norwegian firm H2Carrier have joined forces to develop and implement green hydrogen and ammonia production projects.

This collaboration is formalised under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which aims towards expanding renewable energy resources and deploys floating production solutions to meet the growing demand for sustainable fuels.

Focus on Floating Green Hydrogen and Ammonia

The partnership will leverage H2Carrier’s DNV-certified P2XFloater technology, a floating production facility that converts renewable energy into green hydrogen and ammonia. This innovative approach offers a cost-effective and flexible solution, especially in regions with high population densities or limited land availability.

Sturle Harald Pederson, Chairman and CEO of GHI, said, “The MoU aligns perfectly with our commitment to drive the transition to clean energy and deliver sustainable, scalable green hydrogen and ammonia solutions.”

Key Objectives of the Partnership

Project Identification and Feasibility Studies: GHI and H2Carrier will identify potential sites and conduct feasibility studies for green hydrogen and ammonia production facilities.

Industrial Decarbonisation: The projects will target sectors such as shipping, agriculture, and heavy industries, helping to reduce carbon emissions.

Export Potential: Floating production facilities will enable efficient production and export, particularly along key shipping routes in the region.

H2Carrier CEO Mårten Lunde highlighted the collaboration’s importance, stating, “This partnership aims to address the growing demand for green ammonia as a clean fuel and energy carrier while supporting industrial decarbonisation. Floating solutions bring economic and environmental benefits to regions pursuing sustainable energy development.”

Renewable Energy and Land Efficiency

The floating hydrogen production deal between India and Sri Lanka will utilise abundant renewable energy resources like wind and solar. It also offers a solution to land constraints in densely populated areas, making it a viable option for large-scale sustainable energy production.

Global Expansion and Expertise

H2Carrier has announced plans to explore green hydrogen and ammonia projects in the Arctic region and is applying for licenses to construct wind farms in Norway. Their experience deploying renewable energy technologies strengthens their ability to deliver impactful projects in South Asia.

This collaboration is a significant step towards clean energy adoption in India and Sri Lanka, contributing to global decarbonisation efforts and paving the way for innovative energy solutions.
