India Extends Expertise and Collaborates with Bhutan

With steps towards sustainable transportation solutions, India showcased its advancements in green hydrogen mobility to Bhutan’s leadership. Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas, demonstrated a hydrogen-fuelled bus powered by IndianOil to the Prime Minister of Bhutan, Shri Tshering Tobgay, and his delegation. This significant event was attended by Shri V Satish Kumar, Chairman & Director (Marketing) of IndianOil, and other senior dignitaries. This highlights India’s role as a regional leader in green energy solutions.

During the event, Shri Puri emphasised India’s strides in green hydrogen innovation, stating, “India’s strides in green hydrogen are a testament to our commitment to sustainable energy solutions. We are eager to extend our expertise and collaborate with regional partners like Bhutan to pave the way for a cleaner, greener future. With projects involving hydrogen blending in natural gas pipelines, localisation of electrolyser technologies, and bio-pathways for green hydrogen production, India is poised to be a global champion in hydrogen production and exports. The country is set to emerge as a hub for green hydrogen, deemed as the fuel of the future.”

Bhutan’s Interest in Green Hydrogen

IndianOil: A Pioneer in Hydrogen Technology

  • India’s First Hydrogen Dispensing Station: Operational at IndianOil’s R&D Centre in Faridabad.
  • Collaboration with Tata Motors: Developed and operationalised hydrogen fuel cell buses.
  • Fleet Operations: Eight hydrogen fuel cell buses currently operate in the Delhi NCR region, with additional buses deployed in Vadodara, refuelled at IndianOil’s hydrogen dispensing stations.
  • Support for the Armed Forces: Hydrogen-powered buses are being utilised by the Indian Army and Indian Navy.
