Hyundai Motor Company Strengthens Hydrogen Collaboration.

HM’s parallel collaboration with the Škoda Group and General Motors to promote hydrogen-powered vehicles and to advance its technology globally.

The intensifying efforts to promote hydrogen fuel cell-powered mobility through two strategic collaborations with Škoda Group and General Motors signal Hyundai’s continued leadership in clean energy innovation and its commitment to advancing hydrogen technologies on a global scale.

At the Korea-in Business Summit held recently, Hyundai and Škoda Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly explore hydrogen fuel cell mobility solutions and energy-efficient technologies. Hyundai will provide its cutting-edge fuel cell systems to Škoda, focusing on markets where Škoda mainly operates(Europe, Asia and Australia). The agreement will also allow the two companies to conduct feasibility studies on the use of fuel cell systems for various applications beyond transportation, aiming to expand the hydrogen ecosystem and value chain in broader industries.

Ken Ramírez, Executive Vice President of Hyundai Motor Company, expressed his optimism about the collaboration, stating, “Together with Škoda Group, we strive to lead the rapidly growing hydrogen businesses by creating positive synergies between our fuel cell technology and Škoda Group’s mobility products and projects.”

Škoda Group CEO, Petr Novotny, echoed this sentiment, adding, “Hydrogen, along with energy-efficient solutions, will play a vital role in transforming mobility for a more sustainable future. Our collaboration with Hyundai will help us explore wider markets where these technologies can make a substantial impact.”

In a parallel move, Hyundai has also entered into a framework agreement with General Motors (GM) to collaborate on the production of passenger and commercial vehicles powered by both hydrogen and electric technologies. Signed by Hyundai Motor Group’s Executive Chair, Euisun Chung, and GM CEO, Mary Barra, this partnership will enable both companies to evaluate opportunities to improve efficiency in vehicle development through shared technology and resources.

Mary Barra emphasised the potential of the partnership, saying, “This collaboration has the potential to make vehicle development more efficient by driving greater scale and supporting disciplined capital allocation. GM and Hyundai have complementary strengths, and together, we aim to unlock new opportunities in clean energy mobility.”

Hyundai’s Chung noted, “Our combined expertise will enhance competitiveness in key markets and vehicle segments, driving cost efficiencies while delivering greater value to customers through innovative technologies.”

These partnerships reinforce Hyundai’s commitment to becoming a leader in the hydrogen mobility space, as the company continues to expand its hydrogen ecosystem through global collaborations. With its advanced hydrogen fuel cell technologies, Hyundai is well-positioned to play a pivotal role in the global transition towards cleaner, more sustainable transportation solutions.
