HyHAUL Launches UK’s First Hydrogen Trucking Corridor Along M4

A £14 million investment has officially launched the UK’s first hydrogen-powered HGV corridor, marking a pivotal moment in the country’s clean transport transition.

Spearheaded by HyHAUL Mobility Ltd, the initiative will deploy 30 hydrogen fuel cell trucks along the M4 motorway, supported by strategically placed refuelling stations in Avonmouth, Reading, and other key logistics hubs.

The corridor is part of the government-backed Zero Emission HGV & Infrastructure Demonstrator (ZEHID) programme, designed to tackle emissions from heavy-duty transport, a sector responsible for 17% of UK road emissions.

Partners include Novuna, Scania Group, Reynolds Logistics, and Protium, which will supply green hydrogen produced in Wales.

Victoria Saunders of Innovate UK hailed the project as “a crucial step forward” in decarbonising freight.

The corridor is expected to save 1,900 tonnes of CO₂ annually, while offering logistics firms a viable alternative to diesel with comparable range and refuelling times.

Hydrogen trucking is no longer theoretical, the UK is laying real infrastructure to support zero-emission logistics at scale.
