Hygenco Launches 1.1 GW Renewable Energy Tender for Green Ammonia Project

India’s Largest Green project aims to produce 1.1 million tonnes of green ammonia annually by 2026, positioning India as a global leader in hydrogen production and export.

Hygenco Green Energies has launched a major 1.1 GW renewable energy tender to support its ambitious green ammonia project in India. The tender, one of the largest of its kind in the country, aims to procure 625 MW from solar photovoltaic (PV) projects and 500 MW from wind power.

This significant initiative underscores Hygenco’s commitment to driving India’s energy transition by focusing on green hydrogen and ammonia production.

Amit Bansal, Co-Founder and CEO of Hygenco emphasised the company’s mission to strengthen India’s energy security and contribute to its climate goals. He noted that this tender represents an important milestone for the firm, which is one of the few pure-play green hydrogen companies with operational assets.

“This large tender of over 1GW is amongst the many firsts achieved by us and demonstrates both our ambition and action in scaling up India’s green hydrogen and green ammonia market,” said Bansal.

The green ammonia project will be developed at Tata Steel’s Special Economic Zone Industrial Park (GIP) in Odisha. Under a binding agreement, Hygenco plans to produce 1.1 million tonnes of green ammonia annually from the Odisha plant, with production set to occur in multiple phases. The first phase is expected to be operational by December 2026.

India’s Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has also expressed strong support for green hydrogen, outlining his vision to make India a global hub for hydrogen production, utilisation, and export.

This project aligns with the government’s broader ambitions, as the country looks to position itself at the forefront of the global hydrogen economy. Hygenco’s large-scale renewable energy tender represents a critical step toward achieving these goals.
