Oman to Sign Contracts for Six Green Hydrogen Projects

Hydrogen Oman (Hydrom) are set to sign contracts with the developers of six multibillion-dollar green hydrogen projects in Oman in May and June of this year, after Oman’s Energy and Mineral’s Minister and Hydrom chairman Salim al-Aufi signed term sheet agreements last month.

With an investment of approximately $20 billion, the projects will be located near the ports of Duqm and Salalah, in the governorates of Al-Wusta and Dhofar, covering a total area of 1500 square kilometres. A 47-year contracting period has been granted, with seven years allocated to project development, followed by 40 years of operation.

Hydrom are to provide hydrogen pipelines and desalinated water for the projects, which are expected to cover the full green hydrogen chain, from production to application. The developers will ultimately choose the end product, be it hydrogen, ammonia, or any other derivatives. Hydrom aim to award two blocks to in Duqm and four blocks in Thumrait later this year.

The projects, which will help achieve Oman’s goal to be produce 1 million tonnes of green hydrogen a year by 2030, will reduce the countries carbon footprint and help transition to a low carbon economy. They also demonstrate the Omani Government’s commitment to supporting private investment in green hydrogen projects.
