How far Will €100m go to Integrate Electrolysers?

The federal government of Spain has announced its decision to provide a combined funding of €100m ($107m) to seven large-scale green hydrogen initiatives.

These projects involve the integration of electrolysers into industrial settings. The funding distribution ranges between €10m and €15m for each of the seven projects, which are located in different regions of Spain, including Andalusia (three projects), Valencia, Asturias, Galicia, and Castilla-La Mancha (one project each).

The selection of these projects for funding was based on their innovative nature, as stated by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO).

Although specific details regarding the size of the projects and the industrial applications they support have not been provided, the funding is aimed at promoting the development of electrolysis demonstrations and initiatives that integrate high-capacity electrolysers into industrial environments.

Out of the total funding amount, approximately €60m has been allocated to projects in regions identified by the Spanish government as “Just Transition and Demographic Challenge” areas.

This allocation aligns with broader efforts to stimulate economic growth in rural regions. Additionally, Minister for the Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, has been entrusted with addressing Spain’s sparsely populated areas, colloquially known as “population deserts,” where the population density is as low as 14 inhabitants per square kilometre.
