H2 Global Energy consortium signs $6bn deal with Tunisia
The $6bn green hydrogen and ammonia deal aims at placing Tunisia as a key player in the renewable energy transition.
Swiss-based green energy company H2 Global Energy has signed an MOU agreement with the Tunisian government to develop a $6bn (£4.9) green hydrogen and green ammonia project.
The deal included a consortium led by H2 Global Energy and expanded existing collaborations between Tunisia and Jordan.
According to H2 Global Energy, the partnership aims to “leverage Tunisia’s abundant renewable energy resources” and support in establishing the country as a key player in renewable energy transitions.
Waleed AlHallaj, the Chief Commercial Officer of H2 Global Energy, highlighted his thoughts on collaboartion across the project.
AlHallaj said: “This is a strategic project that not only aligns with our commitment to sustainable energy but also underscores Tunisia’s potential as a leader in green hydrogen and ammonia production. We are excited to work together with the Tunisian government to achieve our shared vision of a greener future.”
The project is expected to create numerous job opportunities and drive significant economic growth in Tunisia, while contributing to global efforts to combat climate change.
As stated by H2 Gloabl Energy, through collaboration they can move towards their mission of enabling a “sustainable energy future” aligning beliefs in the potential of hydrogen and ammonia as fundamental elements of the global energy mix.
The announcement of this project follows recent expansions into the middle East. In Novemeber 2023 H2 Global Energy and its consortium announced a $9bn project to develop a green hydrogen production facility in Jordan.
Yazan Alfaouri, QAQC Lead at Qatar energy and shareholder of the consortium emphasised his excitement about the agreement and saw this project as a “main corner stone of the energy transition plans of Tunisia and a step forward on the Tunisian Jordanian existing collaborations”.
