Feasibility Study for the Construction of a 240 MW Solar Power Plant
Hydrogen Ukraine has signed an agreement with the Scientific and Technical Center of Electric Power “Ukrsіlenergoproject”. They will develop a feasibility study for constructing a 240 MW solar power plant (SPP) and a 160 MW wind farm in the Odesa region.
Critically, the study will strongly emphasise integrating the generated renewable energy directly into the project’s hydrogen production process.
Moreover, Hydrogen Ukraine will explore various options for supplying the generated clean electricity.
These options include:
- Feeding power directly into the grid of Ukraine’s integrated power system.
- Supplying electricity to the power grid of Moldova.
- Connecting to the ENTSO-E-Romania grid.
Using renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, is crucial for producing green hydrogen, which is hydrogen generated through electrolysis powered by renewable energy. Unlike traditional hydrogen production methods that rely on fossil fuels, green hydrogen is produced without emitting greenhouse gases, making it a key player in the global shift towards sustainable energy.
Ukraine holds substantial potential in renewable energy
Particularly in the wind and solar sectors. The country’s vast plains and favourable weather conditions make it an ideal location for large-scale renewable energy projects. By harnessing this potential, Ukraine can meet its domestic energy needs and contribute to regional energy security and sustainability.
The partnership between Hydrogen Ukraine and Ukrsilenergoproekt is a testament to Ukraine’s commitment to advancing its renewable energy capabilities and positioning itself as a leader in the green hydrogen economy. Ukrsilenergoproekt, known for its leadership in design and construction within the energy sector of Ukraine’s South-Eastern and Central regions, has established a reputation as a reliable business partner. Their expertise will be instrumental in realising the project’s goals.
The success of our project could pave the way for further investments and developments in Ukraine’s renewable energy sector, highlighting the nation’s strategic importance in the global transition to clean energy.
Project funding was awarded through the InnovateUkraine, funded by UK International Development and hosted by British Embassy in Kyiv.
