CHS: Exploring the Hydrogen Safety Vision

Centre for Hydrogen safety (CHS) is a global non-profit dedicated to promoting hydrogen safety and best practices worldwide by supporting and promoting the safe handling and use of hydrogen across applications in the energy transition.

It was founded in 2019 and the Centre for Hydrogen Safety exists to provide guidance, education and collaborative forums to realise the successful and transformative benefits of hydrogen.

Vision: A world committed to hydrogen safety

Their vision is to inspire a global commitment to hydrogen safety. They seek to foster a culture of safety and responsibility across all hydrogen applications, allowing the potential of hydrogen to be fully realised without compromising safety.

Mission: Be the premier resource for applied hydrogen safety

CHS offers webinars, eLearning, best practices, and conferences in order to help educate workers in the safe handling of hydrogen and the safe design and use of hydrogen systems.

They provide freely available hydrogen safety information, free webinars, and low cost eLearning courses in order to help inform public officials, government entities, and workers about industry best practices and lessons learned. Available online are:

  • Webinars
  • eLearnings
  • Hydrogen Safety Periodical
  • Free Hydrogen Safety Information
  • Codes and Standards Database
  • Lessons Learned
  • Best Practices
  • Technical Reports and White Papers
  • Hydrogen Incident Recovery Guide

Through the Hydrogen Safety Panel (HSP) CHS offers objective, non-regulatory, and neutral advice to companies designing, building, operating and maintaining hydrogen systems in order to help them avoid incidents, reduce costs, establish public and stakeholder confidence, and provide a balanced solution to questions and problems.

They aim to train first-responders to be safe while responding to incidents involving hydrogen by providing freely available hydrogen safety information, offering in person training, use of hydrogen props, free first-responder focused eLearning courses, and train the trainer content. They train researchers in hydrogen lab safety by offering a free lab focused eLearning course, low-cost eLearning content, and freely available hydrogen safety information.

CHS also creates opportunity for the industry to connect and share knowledge on hydrogen safety topics through working groups, webinars, member meetings, conferences, and workshops.

Message to Industry
