China Aerospace Unveils Breakthrough Liquid Hydrogen Fuelling System

Unveiling a 100kg liquid-hydrogen fuel system allows a truck to travel 1,300km without refuelling. China Aerospace and Technology Corporation (CASC), a leading state-owned enterprise, has announced a significant advancement in the transportation sector by unveiling a new liquid-hydrogen fuelling system for trucks.

This truck meets international standards by featuring a 100 KG fuel tank, marking a milestone in China’s efforts to drive innovation in sustainable transportation.

The state-of-the-art liquid hydrogen system, Track 1000, depicts a vital leap forward in the hydrogen-powered heavy trucks industry. The Track 1000 promises to revolutionise the range of hydrogen-powered vehicles, facilitating them to travel over 1,000km on a single charge and is developed domestically.

Track 1000 offers remarkable performance, with the entire domestically produced components assuring reliability and efficiency

At the core of liquid hydrogen heavy trucks, the Track 1000 offers remarkable performance, with the entire domestically produced components assuring reliability and efficiency – stated CASC, the main contractor for China’s space programme. With just one charge, hydrogen-powered heavy trucks equipped with this system can perform an improved range of over 1,000km, enhancing their viability as a sustainable carrier solution.

While maintaining similar overall dimensions as its predecessor, the truck boasts an exceptional 20% increase in hydrogen volume, resulting in extended range abilities. CASC emphasises that the Track 1000 system delivers significant cost savings by reducing more than 30% compared to earlier iterations.

“Liquid hydrogen presents notable challenges in terms of storage and transportation due to its freezing temperatures and the risk of pressure buildup” exemplified CASC. However, their innovative approach has overcome these challenges, assuring that the Track 1000 meets international standards concerning quality, storage density and refuelling time.

The news comes live when the world is increasingly interested in hydrogen-powered transportation solutions

The news comes live when the world is increasingly interested in hydrogen-powered transportation solutions, and companies like Daimler have already carried out successful road tests of hydrogen-fuelled trucks. The Gen H2 truck of Daimler has a 40 KG hydrogen fuel tank and shows its impressive insulation capacity to store hydrogen at freezing temperatures for a long time without active cooling.

Unveiling CASC Track 1000 marks a significant milestone in China’s journey towards a better sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation sector. The Track 1000 has an increased range, a low-cost model and a vital component in accelerating the adoption of hydrogen-powered vehicles, creating the path for a cleaner and greener future.
