Amsterdam To Get 500MW Green Hydrogen Plant

The Port of Amsterdam in the Netherlands is to get a 500MW green hydrogen plant. Hydrogen Industry Leaders looks at how the plant will support the region’s hydrogen economy.

Hydrogen Chemistry Company (HyCC) has launched Project H2era and said the plant could be operational in 2027.

In cooperation with the Port of Amsterdam, HyCC has completed a first feasibility study, with plans to deepen the project’s developments in the company months with a pre-front end engineering design (FEED) study.

Aiming to initially offer hydrogen to decarbonise both the industry and mobility in the region, the plant will be able to connect to a national pipeline network, which is said to enable hydrogen exchange between industrial clusters.

It comes after the announcement in December 2021 that HyCC was set to be launched. The plans were to target aviation, steel, chemicals, and refineries, with reliable and affordable green hydrogen solutions.

Chief Investment Officer for the Port of Amsterdam, Dorine Bosman, said: “500MW of green hydrogen production is an enormous asset for the regional hydrogen economy. With this project, the Port of Amsterdam strengthens its position as a frontrunner in the transition to a sustainable, circular economy.”
