Advanced Electrolysers to Progress India’s Hydrogen Projects

The leading European provider of hydrogen production technology has received its first purchase order for its innovative alkaline electrolyser system from Indian-based BGR Tech Limited.

This strategic agreement marks Stargate Hydrogen‘s entry into the Indian market, with the initial deployment of a Stellar series stack for BGR Tech’s first demonstration installation in Chennai.

As per the terms of the agreement, Stargate Hydrogen will not only supply the electrolyser system but will also offer comprehensive engineering support during the system definition stage.

This collaboration is expected to pave the way for further electrolysis stacks to be delivered for subsequent installations, supporting the expanding green hydrogen sector in India.

In addition to this project, the agreement includes an intent to execute larger electrolyser projects in the future, with the possibility of cooperating with BGR Tech for local manufacturing.

This collaboration will be crucial in addressing the growing demand for green hydrogen projects in India between 2024 and 2030, as the country continues to pursue its ambitious clean energy goals.

Marko Virkebau, CEO of Stargate Hydrogen, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating: “Together, we are dedicated to providing an efficient, reliable, and competitive hydrogen production system tailored for Indian projects.

India’s commitment to clean energy aligns perfectly with our mission to advance cost-competitive green hydrogen production and foster sustainable energy solutions worldwide.”

Green hydrogen plays a key role in India’s net zero targets

The collaboration aligns with the Indian Government’s strategic plan to become a global leader in the clean energy transition. As the world’s third-largest economy, India is projected to see a 35% increase in energy demand by 2030.

The partnership between Stargate Hydrogen and BGR Tech is poised to play a significant role in meeting this demand by developing advanced green hydrogen production systems.

BGR Tech, known for its expertise in designing and manufacturing end-to-end hydrogen value chain equipment, integrates Stargate’s alkaline electrolyser system into its in-house developed Balance of Plant.

Priyadershini Raghupathy, Founder and Managing Director of BGR Tech, commented on the collaboration, stating: “We are keen to execute alkaline water electrolyser-based hydrogen production projects in India.

“BGR Tech’s manufacturing facility in Chennai is capable of designing and manufacturing end-to-end hydrogen value chain equipment. This cooperation will enhance our capabilities in delivering clean energy solutions and support our ongoing efforts to decarbonise industries.”

The partnership between Stargate Hydrogen and BGR Tech represents a significant step forward in the development of India’s green hydrogen infrastructure.

Stargate’s advanced electrolyser technology collaboration with BGR Tech’s manufacturing expertise is well-positioned to deliver innovative and scalable hydrogen production solutions contributing to India’s clean energy transition.
