Aberdeen’s New Hydrogen Car Factory Could Create 800 Jobs

New hydrogen-powered cars could be built in Aberdeen if the region secures green freeport status. Hydrogen Industry Leaders looks at how the factory could benefit North East Scotland.

Inventors of the Rasa hydrogen vehicle, Riversimple, are currently in talks about locating a 150,000 sq ft manufacturing plant in Aberdeen.

It is said that the plant could potentially create 800 jobs and produce over 5,000 vehicles per year; with the company currently, beta testing a small fleet of Rasas, a new car is also under development for production.

Riversimple has signed a letter supporting the North East Scotland Green Freeport bid, saying that the tax status, together with the existing energy sector supply chain would “significantly increase” the likelihood of the company investing.

The North East Scotland Green Freeport consortium is led by the Port of Aberdeen, Peterhead Port Authority, Aberdeen International Airport and the region’s two local authorities. It vows to use the designation to place the area at the heart of the global energy transition.
