CompassH2: Pioneering Green Hydrogen Production

Samsung E&A, a global energy solutions provider, has unveiled CompassH2, a next-generation green hydrogen production plant developed in collaboration with Nel, a leader in hydrogen electrolyser technology.

Designed to achieve industry-leading efficiency and cost-competitiveness, CompassH2 serves as a pathfinder to the optimal Levelized Cost of Hydrogen (LCOH).

The official launch will take place at the World Hydrogen Summit 2025 in Rotterdam Ahoy, Netherlands, on 21 May 2025.

Key Features of CompassH2

  • Optimised System Efficiency: Nel’s market-leading electrolyser technology, combined with Samsung E&A’s system-level design innovations, ensures the lowest achievable LCOH.
  • Performance Guarantees: Clients benefit from system-level performance guarantees, enhancing project credibility and bankability.
  • Comprehensive Engineering Support: Samsung E&A provides full lifecycle support, ensuring seamless project execution from design to delivery.
  • End-to-End Solution: A fully integrated approach, covering feasibility studies, EPC execution, and warranty, while seamlessly integrating downstream processes.

CompassH2 is scalable, starting with a 100 MW base capacity, allowing for flexible expansion based on project needs.

The solution guarantees exceptional hydrogen purity, meeting the highest industrial standards. With world-leading production efficiency, CompassH2 sets a new benchmark for energy efficiency in the industry.

The Role of Green Hydrogen in the Energy Transition

Electrolyser-based green hydrogen production is a gateway technology for synthesising green ammonia, green methanol, and e-fuels, making it a critical component in the broader energy transition.

As the global eco-friendly energy market -spanning sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), ammonia, and methanol – expands in response to decarbonisation trends and tightening environmental regulations, this partnership positions Samsung E&A at the forefront of the green hydrogen revolution.

Samsung E&A’s Commitment to Sustainability

Samsung E&A has declared “addressing societal challenges through technology” as a key pillar of its mid-to-long-term strategy in the era of energy transition.

The company is accelerating its expansion into new energy and eco-friendly sectors through its three E&Able strategies, reinforcing its commitment to a sustainable future:

  • E&Able Low – Advancing low-carbon solutions.
  • E&Able Zero – Driving carbon-free innovations.
  • E&Able Circle – Promoting environmental sustainability.

With CompassH2, Samsung E&A is setting a “new standard” for green hydrogen production, paving the way for a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
