Nord Steel and MT Group sign €1.4m deal for hydrogen storage tanks

The deal will oversee the delivery of three hydrogen tanks deployed at the Lithuanian port with aims of expanding sustainable solutions in the region.
European energy infrastructure development company MT Group has announced its €1.4m (£1.1m) partnership with Nord Steel as the manufacturer and supplier of hydrogen storage tanks at the Klaipėda Port.
Nord Steel is set to design, manufacture and deliver three advanced green hydrogen storage tanks to the Port of Klaipėda for €1.4m (£1.1m).
The project will feature a 40-bar green hydrogen buffer tank and two hydrogen storage tanks capable of withstanding pressures of 550 bar and 1000 bar.
Algis Latakas, General Director of Klaipeda State Seaport Authority emphasised the outlook for Lithuania across the project.
Latakas said: “This project, which we undertook with a clear vision for the future, is an important step in developing Klaipėda Port’s infrastructure and a significant investment in long-term sustainable solutions that will shape a more modern, cleaner and innovative transport and industrial ecosystem.
“Moreover, this project demonstrates Lithuania’s industrial capability not only to adapt to global changes but also to actively participate in shaping them, demonstrating a high level of competence, professionalism and a responsible approach”.
According to the MT Group, the company has “extensive experience collaborating with Nord Steel on complex manufacturing and installation projects for energy and industrial facilities across Europe”.
MT Group further highlighted how the project aims to act as a “catalyst” for developing green hydrogen technologies in Lithuania.
According to the Lithuanian Energy Agency, Lithuania’s hydrogen potential will increase by 2050 due to growing hydrogen demand in the domestic and regional industrial centres.
