Indonesia and Green Hydrogen Organisation Sign Landmark Agreement

MEMR has partnered with GH2 to accelerate Indonesia’s national hydrogen strategy, advancing the transition to hydrogen through comprehensive means.

The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Green Hydrogen Organization (GH2) to fast-track the implementation of Indonesia’s national hydrogen strategy. This collaboration aims to accelerate the country’s transition towards green hydrogen, focusing on four key areas: policy and regulations, market expansion and investment, financing mechanisms, and regional cooperation.

A key component of the agreement is Indonesia’s involvement in the Asia Pacific Green Hydrogen Alliance, a joint initiative by GH2 and Breakthrough Energy

This partnership promotes favourable policies and secure financing for developing renewable and low-carbon hydrogen across Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, South Korea, and Japan.

By strengthening regional cooperation, the alliance will support the production and utilisation of green hydrogen, a critical element for ensuring energy security and enabling a sustainable energy transition in Asia.

GH2 will provide technical assistance to MEMR and other Indonesian stakeholders, offering guidance in creating standards, supporting capacity-building efforts, and sharing global best practices in policy development, legislation, and fiscal incentives for renewable energy and low-carbon hydrogen.

This collaboration will help Indonesia achieve its green hydrogen goals by providing the tools and knowledge needed to implement its national hydrogen strategy by 2030

Jonas Moberg, CEO of GH2, emphasised that Asian countries have a unique opportunity to lead the decarbonisation of hard-to-electrify industries, he thanked their competitive advantages in green hydrogen production. He additionally remarked that as electrolyser prices continue to decline, green hydrogen will soon reach cost parity with grey hydrogen, particularly in countries with favourable renewable energy resources.

This partnership marks a significant step in Indonesia’s journey towards energy security and the global transition to cleaner energy, paving the way for green hydrogen to play a pivotal role in decarbonising the nation’s economy and advancing its sustainability goals.
