TICAD: Egypt And Namibia’s Foreign Ministers Discuss Hydrogen Cooperation

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met with Namibian Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Peya Mushelenga at the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting 2024.

Abdelatty praised the good friendly relations between Egypt and Namibia, expressing Egypt’s hope to develop bilateral relations and enhance frameworks of joint cooperation in a way that benefits the peoples of the two countries and achieves the hoped-for benefit from the capabilities of the two brotherly countries.

Charitable Cooperation

He also thanked the Namibian government for allocating two plots of land to the Egyptian Church to establish a charitable medical and educational service centre in Ondangwa city.

the two ministers stressed the need to start preparing for holding the fifth session of the joint committee as soon as possible to discuss existing cooperation paths as well as putting into effect the signed memos of understanding and joint cooperation programs.

Abdelatty said a number of Egyptian companies are willing to increase their investments in Namibia, especially in the fields of infrastructure, ports and roads, stressing the importance of taking faster steps to strengthen ties between the Egyptian business community and the Namibian government and private sector.

He reviewed Egypt’s efforts to establish peace in the African continent given its membership in the African Peace and Security Council.

The two sides stressed the importance of enhancing joint coordination on regional and international issues that are a top priority for both sides, and pushing forward efforts for continental integration to achieve the interests of African countries and boost inter-African action.

Technical Cooperation On Hydrogen

The Namibian minister praised the pioneering role played by Egypt on the African and international arenas.

He expressed his country’s interest in technical cooperation and exchange of expertise with Egypt in the field of green hydrogen in light of the two countries’ ambitious plans in this regard, as well as the possibility of cooperation through the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development and various Egyptian institutions in the field of cybersecurity, data protection, agriculture and agricultural manufacturing.

He expressed his hope for more cooperation between the two countries at all levels and attracting more Egyptian investments to Namibia.

About TICAD Ministerial Meeting 2024

The primary focus of the TICAD Ministerial Meeting 2024 is to delineate medium and long-term development priorities in the upcoming years for the partnership between Africa and Japan, said Spokesman of the Egyptian foreign minister, Ahmed Abu Zeid.

This initiative aims to foster comprehensive growth and sustainable development in Africa, aligning with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, while also devising innovative solutions for global challenges that particularly impact Africa.

The meeting will follow up on the implementation of the outcomes of the TICAD 8 summit held in Tunisia in August 2022 and lay the groundwork for TICAD 9 scheduled to convene in August 2025 in Yokohama city of Japan.

This conference, spearheaded by Japan and co-organised with the United Nations, the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank, and the African Union Commission (AUC), will witness the participation of delegations comprising African foreign ministers, international organisations, African regional bodies, the private sector, civil society, among others.

TICAD serves as a platform for deliberating on the development in Africa.
