Egypt Finalises National Low-Carbon Hydrogen Strategy
Egypt has finalised its national low-carbon hydrogen strategy, said Randa Al-Minshawi, a senior aide of Prime Minister, on Monday. The move marks a significant step towards establishing the country as a global leader in green energy production.
Details of The Hydrogen Strategy
The strategy outlines a comprehensive framework for developing the green hydrogen industry in Egypt, including financial incentives, tax exemptions, and streamlined approval processes for related projects.
The National Council for Green Hydrogen, established last year as per a Cabinet decree no. 3445/2023, will oversee the implementation of the strategy.
Egypt’s new Alamein City
The announcement was made while Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly led a meeting in New Alamein City to review the progress made on green hydrogen projects and discuss the implementation of the new strategy.
The New El-Alamein City is an integrated city at the heart of the North West coast of Egypt. It includes all residential activities, cultural, tourist, industrial and research areas, a private university, international hotels, two presidential and cabinet buildings.
The city is implemented on a total area of 48, 917 thousand feddans, with the targeted number of residents at nearly 3 million people. Its borders begin from Wadi El-Natroun to El-Dabaa.
The city is located within the administrative borders of Marsa Matruh governorate with a length of 48 km from the international road (Alexandria – Matruh).
New El-Alamein City is divided into a tourism, historical and residential segments. The Urban Communities Authority and the Engineering Authority jointly establish the city’s facilities from a water station, infrastructure, sewage, and electricity networks.
The city has an international promenade along the beach. It is unique in that it contains the latest technological and urban projects that are unparalleled.
Key government officials, including the ministers of electricity, investment, and petroleum, as well as representatives from the Suez Canal Economic Zone Authority and the National Council for Green Hydrogen, attended the meeting.
Other locations for green hydrogen projects
Leveraging Egypt’s vast renewable energy potential, the government has identified numerous suitable locations for green hydrogen projects across the country, including the Gulf of Suez, Gebel El Zeit, Benban, Kom Ombo, and Zaafarana.
To date, 23 green hydrogen projects are underway, with partnerships formed with global energy developers.
Egypt aims to position itself as a major exporter of green hydrogen, contributing to the global transition to a low-carbon economy.
