Hyundai Enhances Fire Safety in Hydrogen on Jeju Island

Hyundai Motor Group takes a significant step towards improving emergency response capabilities by providing a hydrogen-powered fuel cell support bus to the Korean National Fire Agency.
The state-of-the-art Hyundai fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) is developed to be deployed in the line of duty on Jeju Island, a region renowned for its commitment to sustainable energy.
Innovative Design Tailored to Firefighters’ Needs
The FCEV was meticulously designed with input from Korean firefighters and Jeju Island’s Fireadobe Department, ensuring this collaboration resulted in a vehicle equipped with essential features tailored to the needs of emergency responders.
The support bus includes a compact cooking area, an external air tent powered by the vehicle, a high-pressure air gun, a high-pressure water gun, and a storage area for fire-resistant clothing.
The bus utilises hydrogen and oxygen to generate electricity, sourced from Jeju Island’s green hydrogen production complex.
Harnessing Green Hydrogen for Energy Transition
Jeju Island is a leader in the energy transition, and the Hyundai Universe FCEV is powered by hydrogen and oxygen supplied locally to generate electricity.
The region’s green hydrogen production complex will provide the necessary fuel, supporting the island’s ambitious plans for sustainable energy.
The Jeju Government has unveiled a large-scale green hydrogen production project, aiming for a total annual output of 30 MW across two facilities.
